 | a REGISTERED version of Quake. The shareware version available from this site will not work, you need to get a copy of the release version. | |
| the 1.06 Quake patch installed. If you don't have this patch, download it, because it fixes many of the bugs found in version 1.01. | |
| read the Capture The Flag page. This is the game currently on the server, and reading the rules and playing tips is a very good idea. | |
Setting Up A Shortcut To Quake:The easiest way to launch a Multiplayer game of Quake is to setup a shortcut on your desktop. | ||
| Set up a shortcut to the file q95.bat in your Quake directory. | |
| Bring up the Properties dialog box by clicking the right mouse button on your new shortcut, and selecting Properties. | |
| Select the Program tab. | |
| Select the Memory tab, and ensure that all 5 field are set to Auto | |
| Select the Screen tab, and set Usage to Full Screen | |
| Select the Misc tab. | |
| Ensure the Allow screen saver checkbox is NOT checked. | |
| Ensure the Always suspend checkbox IS checked. | |
Now connect to XTRA.Start Quake from the shortcut you just created. | ||
| Press the Esc key on your keyboard to bring up the Main menu.. | |

| Select Multiplayer.. | |
| Select Setup.. | |
| Type your preferred playing name into the Your Name field.. | |
| Select a Shirt and Pants colour.. | |
| Select Accept Changes and press Enter.. | |

You should now be back in the Multiplayer menu.. | ||
| Select Join A Game... | |
| Select TCP/IP... | |
|

Set the Port to 26000 to play Capture The Flag. | |
| Type quake.xtra.co.nz into the Join Game At field, and press Enter.. | |
 If everything is configured properly, you should connect to XTRA's Quake server.
The server currently has a maximum capacity of 16 players, and the connection will fail if the game is full. If this happens, please try again later. We will be increasing the number of games on the server in the near future, so stay tuned to the Quake News page for details about this.  | ||
