2 September 1999 - updated by Ratfink

This will be my last update as the system is being handed over to Sidbo.
A few things to add to the list of servers running:

Half Life Team Fortess Classic
203.96.92.68 on the default port of 27015 ( I have requested a dns entry for this to be halflife.xtra.co.nz ). It is currently running all of the Valve maps, plus run, dominat, bozz, and totalwar - you can grab the maps from Radium

Quake 3 Arena Test (q3test)
quake2.xtra.co.nz (203.96.92.67) on the default port of 27960. It is currently running all of the maps supplied with the test in rotation - if for some reason you have been living under a rock for the last few months, grab Q3Test from id software's Quake 3 Arena Page, it's availalable for Win32, Mac and Linux.

Competition Servers
There is a Team Fortress Quakeworld server running on quake.xtra.co.nz:29000, and 2 Quake2 CTF competition servers running on quake2.xtra.co.nz, ports 28001 and 28002, these are administrated by the competetion organisers.

It's been fun - keep fragging!

20 April 1999 - updated by Ratfink

Ok a long awaited (not!) update on the status of the Xtra game servers. There are currently 2 actual machines, quake.xtra.co.nz and quake2.xtra.co.nz. The Capture 98 competition servers used to run on this machine, but now that the competition has finished, all the quake2 stuff has moved to this machine. So basically you have all quake servers running on quake.xtra.co.nz ( 203.96.92.66 ) and all quake2 related servers on quake2.xtra.co.nz ( 203.96.92.67 ).

So to sum up what is running and what you need:

Vanilla Quake Capture the Flag
quake.xtra.co.nz on the Quake default port of 26000
To play on this server you will require:

Quakeworld v2.30 Deathmatch
quake.xtra.co.nz on the Quakeworld default port of 27500
To play on this server you will require:

Quake 2 v3.20
quake2.xtra.co.nz on the Quake 2 default port of 27910
To play on this server you will require:

Quake 2 v3.20, Capture the Flag v1.5
quake2.xtra.co.nz on port 27911
To play on this server you will require:

For the interested, there is a page here for the status of the Xtra QuakeWorld and Quake 2 servers

If you've never seen Quake before, then go to the Download page to get a copy of the shareware version. There are also instructions on setting it up, and what sort of computer is best.

If you don't have Quake 2 and would like to try it out, there is a playable demo available from id software's ftp server, and very good instructions on setting up the full version are available at id software's Quake II page and other information is available at Blue's Quake II Resources

For information on QuakeWorld, head over to QuakeWorld Central and have a good read

For information on Quake 2 CTF, head over to Zoid's Quake II Capture the Flag User Manual

If you already have the full version of Quake, and want to play against others, then read the Multiplayer page, it contains all the information you need to connect to the server.

The Help page contains playing tips, cheat codes, and monster profiles.
