Competition Servers
It's been fun - keep fragging! 20 April 1999 - updated by Ratfink Ok a long awaited (not!) update on the status of the Xtra game servers. There are currently 2 actual machines, quake.xtra.co.nz and quake2.xtra.co.nz. The Capture 98 competition servers used to run on this machine, but now that the competition has finished, all the quake2 stuff has moved to this machine. So basically you have all quake servers running on quake.xtra.co.nz ( 203.96.92.66 ) and all quake2 related servers on quake2.xtra.co.nz ( 203.96.92.67 ). So to sum up what is running and what you need: Vanilla Quake Capture the Flag Quakeworld v2.30 Deathmatch Quake 2 v3.20 Quake 2 v3.20, Capture the Flag v1.5 For the interested, there is a page here for the status of the Xtra QuakeWorld and Quake 2 servers If you've never seen Quake before, then go to the Download page to get a copy of the shareware version. There are also instructions on setting it up, and what sort of computer is best. If you don't have Quake 2 and would like to try it out, there is a playable demo available from id software's ftp server, and very good instructions on setting up the full version are available at id software's Quake II page and other information is available at Blue's Quake II Resources For information on QuakeWorld, head over to QuakeWorld Central and have a good read For information on Quake 2 CTF, head over to Zoid's Quake II Capture the Flag User Manual
If you already have the full version of Quake, and want to play against
others, then read the Multiplayer page, it contains all the information you need to connect to the server.
