For your golfing pleasure we have selected the players to keep an eye on from this years field at the open.
Chip Beck
Mr 59, one of only a few players to post the magical 59 number. Consistent rather than flashy player who could be the one to watch.
Billy Mayfair
The headline act the sponsors brought out, Mayfair has won two events on the USPGA Tour and has already been installed as the early favourite. The wind might bring him back to the pack though.
Peter O'Malley
It has been a quiet year for Peter, but he always plays well in NZ, previous trips have seen him pick up the NZ Open as well as the NZ Amateur.
Up and coming amateurs
NZ Eisenhower team
Recently back from Chile are Chris Johns, Reon Sayer, Carl Brooking and Eddie Burgess. Also look out for Canterbury's Karl Kitchingham who last week led his Canterbury Team to a win at the Tower Interprovincials.
Justin Rose
The 18-year-old from Britain who came 4th in the last British Open. Turned pro straight after and hasn't made a cut since, although he did sign recently with Maxfli so financially is doing very well…..
NZ Pros
Philip Taturangi
NZ's Mr Nice Guy, returns after a very successful US PGA season.
Steve Alker
Won the Skins Tournament at Formosa last year and looked in good form of the practice tee.
Stephen Scahill
Returns after a top 10 finish in last weeks Australian Open where he picked up $30,000.
Michael Campbell
The forgotten man of NZ Golf, wrist injury is gone, recently became a father to young Thomas, so life is good. Recent form suggests good things around the corner.
Marten Pettigrew
Well known amateur who has made the step up, looking to add to the $10k in earnings to date.
Grant Waite
Previous winner in (1992 I think?) is looking for a return to form to set him up for the 1999 USPGA season
